Colon Cleansing
Anyone who either suffers from bloating, abdominal distention, gas pains, stomach aches or finds that they get filled up very quickly after eating so are only able to eat small amounts of food at a time may be the ideal candidate for colonics. Colonics or as it is more commonly known as colon irrigation (colon hydrotherapy) is an alternative medical procedure. Although it is similar to an enema it involves the introduction of discrete amounts of purified water into the colon. In some cases the water may be infused with minerals or other materials such as organic coffee. In order to get the water into the colon a medically approved Class II colon hydrotherapy device will be inserted into a person's rectum.
So just what happens during a colonic treatment? Usually such treatments will last about 45 minutes and first of all a small speculum is inserted into your rectum which is attached to a plastic hose and this in turn connects to the colonic machine. A colonic therapist will then adjust the volume and the temperature of the water that is coming out of the machine and into your rectum and through the entire colon. Once a certain volume of water has been reached (it will depend on your tolerance to the treatment) it will induce peristaltic contractions in your colon. Because of these contractions you will start to expel fecal matter that is in your colon through the colonic hose and back into the colonic machine.

Often during a colonic treatment you will find that the therapist will massage various parts of the abdomen in order to help loosen and dislodge areas of fecal impaction. Whenever colonics is being carried out it is important that the therapists uses the correct amount of water as too much and you may find it not only uncomfortable but painful also. Also if they use too little water during the treatment then this will cause your colon to work harder.
Also you may find that you need more than one session of colonic irrigation. Normally during the first few treatments you will be expelling considerable amounts of gas and it will only be after a few sessions that you start to see old encrusted fecal matter beginning to move. So therefore it is important that you are patient and let the colonics do their work properly.
